Playtime – with Durrington Walls Wind Band
The Durrington Village Band is going to bring fun and music together for an hour or so at 3.00pm on Sunday afternoon, 14thth June in the Pavilion in the Durrington Recreation Ground.
Players from the band will offer a sample of the wide variety of music which they play and will demonstrate some of the instruments which form a Wind Band. This an afternoon for children and adults of all ages. If you once played a wind or percussion instrument and life moved on such that you let it gather dust then this is definitely an afternoon for you. There are players in the band who did just that but came along to an afternoon like this and realized what pleasures they are missing. It’s amazing how easy it is to recover the lost skills you once enjoyed and the band can help you if you need it.
But it is also an afternoon for parents and grandparents to think about encouraging their children to take up an instrument whilst they are young. Unfortunately, with narrow-minded government management of school curriculums, music lessons have almost entirely disappeared from state education. This has not been helped by the addictive nature of screen games, which has torn through our society at an alarming rate with many undesirable consequences besides the decimation of live music education, although music lessons are still available in and out of schools and we have good connections with those.
Refreshments will be served and there will be opportunity to try an instrument which you one time played or might like to learn. There is no charge for joining us for this afternoon of fun, whether to just enjoy the music or ‘have a go’. Hope to see you there. More info from 07989 507 203
