Reports Of Sickness after Swimming in the River Avon in Durrington.

This is not scaremongering.

I have had several reports recently of children falling ill after bathing in the river Avon in  Durrington, they were just having fun but, in some cases it has resulted in sickness and infections.

Children can easily become ill from river water due to exposure to untreated bacteria, parasites, and viruses. Common ailments range from mild stomach bugs (diarrhoea and vomiting) to severe infections like Weil’s disease (leptospirosis).

The water in our chalk streams is made worse by garden waste and casual fly-tipping so, please make sure you don’t innocently contaminate our river.

Quite simply “Think Before You Swim”. Is a swim worth the potential consequences? When I was a young teenager, over  60 years ago, rivers were so much safer than today. So, please be careful.
